Hello lovelies!
I am always intrigued in discovering holistic ways to support one's mental health. Reiki, a Japanese form of energy healing, has been a practice that I had never truly understood as to what it is, how it works and how it could it benefit oneself. Celebrity jewelry designer and Master Reiki Teacher, Mara Scalise, first introduced it to me a few years ago when I shared with her how my mental health was challenging me.
Reiki is finally being acknowledged by modern medicine and praising the benefits of this practice. So what exactly is Reiki? The International Center for Reiki states, "Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery."
What to expect in a session with a Reiki professional is actually quite comfortable. The client rests comfortably on a massage table on their back with their shoes removed. In addition, Reiki can be performed with the client sitting comfortably in a chair. Unlike massage therapy, no articles of clothing are removed and a client is always fully clothed. A session can either be hands-on, where a Practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where they will hold their hands slightly above your body. If a client prefers not to be touched they can indicate this to the practitioner before they begin. Lastly, a session lasts either 60 to 90 minutes.
My interview with Mara dives deeper into the practice of Reiki, how she uses it to heal and why she infuses into her jewelry.
